Firstoff the 4.6 is a fine engine and the 5.4 is as well. I have a 98 f150 with the 4.6L and its quick as hell but I have a ton of mods though. There are more things available for the 5.4 like superchargers and long tube headers but if that's not a big deal to you than don't worry about it. Like the other boys said gear ration is key hear.
